Nutrition Is Not Common Sense

by: Marc David

I'd like to explain an important concept that most online trainers (even the "gurus") don't "get"...

Have you ever heard that 'nutrition is common sense?'

Have you ever thought about why the United States has an epidemic of overweight individuals and kids that are out of shape? Or that most people talk about how in their younger days they were able to do this and that. Yet these people are only 30 years old?

by: John Gibb

While many people know that there are benefits to having a good nutritional plan, few regard it as being very important. Many people wonder, why have healthy nutrition?

In a world where fast food is quicker, simpler, and sometimes better tasting, its easy to get tempted by what the corporations have to offer us. Gone are the days of eating every meal at home. Regarding this, we need to keep a more watchful eye over our nutrition intake to make sure our body can be in the best working order.

Post Workout Nutrition: Secrets to a Hard, Lean Body

by: Michael Geary

As you’ve probably heard before, your post-workout meal may very well be your most important meal of the day. The reason is that when you’re finished with an intense workout, you’re entering a catabolic state where your muscle glycogen is depleted and increased cortisol levels are beginning to excessively break down muscle tissue. These conditions are not good and the only way to reverse this catabolic state (and promote an anabolic state) is to consume a quickly digestible post-workout meal as soon as you can after training. The goal is to choose a meal with quickly digestible carbs to replenish muscle glycogen as well as quickly digestible protein to provide the amino acids needed to jump start muscular repair. The surge of carbohydrates and amino acids from this quickly digested meal promotes an insulin spike from the pancreas, which shuttles nutrients into the muscle cells.

by: David McCarthy

Facts about nutrition are becoming important to a greater number of people and that is terrific news for your health. There is an old saying that states: “You are what you eat.” – This holds true today just as it did centuries ago; even if it was originally coined when the majority of people received insufficient food. Today it refers more to the worldwide trend of over-eating.

Advice on Choosing Health Food And Healthy Foods And Reading Nutrition Labels

by: Chris Robertson

Health food doesn't need a definition, does it? We all know what health food is it's yogurt and granola, whole-grain cereal and organically grown vegetables and fruit. It's 100% natural, no preservatives or dyes, unadulterated, pure. When you put all that together, you should have healthy food, yet all too often, what's marketed as health food these days barely classifies as food, let alone health food.

Dietary Guidelines Show Need For Supplements

by: Loren Baker

The 2005 Dietary Guidelines emphasize getting all of your nutrients from conventional foods, if possible, but also flag the need for some supplemental nutrients."The fact is that many people do not get all the nutrients they need from diet alone, and there are clear health benefits from getting the full recommended amounts of all vitamins and minerals. A daily multivitamin can go a long way toward filling the gaps, and an additional supplement providing more calcium and vitamin D is advisable for most people," said Annette Dickinson, Ph.D., president of the Council for Responsible Nutrition (CRN), one of the dietary supplement industry’s leading trade associations.

Why You Should Take Nutritional Supplements

by: Wesley Atkins

With the lifestyles of many today, nutritional supplements are needed to bridge the gap between our unbalanced diets. Here I address why you should take nutritional supplements.

Few things have been as controversial as nutritional supplements have been recently. Depending on who you listen to, they are either the answer to any problem you have or they are the devil incarnate. The truth about nutritional supplements, though, is really somewhere in between.

Vitamin Supplements for Preventive Health

by: Raquel S. Hunter

Taking a megadose of vitamins for preventive health is still being researched. There are hopes that certain vitamins will be proven to prevent certain diseases and disorders from developing. Yet, there are many in the medical community who believe that vitamin supplementation will never take the place of modern medicine, and “miracle”statements will never be made about vitamins.

Benefits of Apple Juice

by VC Staffers

Not recognized and appreciated much, the nutritional worth of apple juice, applesauce and the apple products is worth knowing. These products are devoid of fat, cholesterol and sodium and are integral part of a healthful dietary routine. A university research is also finding that apple juice is full of as much phyto-nutrients as whole apples. Quercetin and various other flavonoids are some of the phyto-nutrients. Pure apple juice offers many natural nutrition benefits. There are antioxidants in apple juice, responsible for improvement in cognitive function. Cornell University researchers have reported that one apple has more cancer fighting antioxidant capability than 1,500-milligram dose of Vitamin C.
